Herbert Baglione | Strychnin Gallery - Conquistadores Group Show

Conquistadores. A group show featuring over 30 Spanish and Latin American street artists.
Curated by Maximiliano Ruiz (Argentina).

The show opens May 14th at 7 pm in our Berlin space.

Conquistadores is an overview of fresh contemporary talent from Spain and Latin America that is – at least metaphorically speaking – out to conquer the world. Globalization has affected both the Spanish and Latin American art scene. Recent art contributions from these countries seem to be nothing but a footnote in global art history books. Far from it! Both art cultures are more alive than ever! And that is what the exhibition Conquistadores is about. It is based on a selection of Spanish and Latin American artists whose work deals with local and national issues that are representative of the general human condition in the 21st century. We are very pleased to be supported by the Spanish and the Colombian embassy in Berlin.

Herbert Baglione | FIFTY24SF GALLERY PRESENTS: "THE DARK WAVE" - NEW WORKS BY HERBERT BAGLIONE

Exibição solo de Herbert Baglione na Fifty24SF Gallery em São Francisco - California, a partir de amanha.

"The Dark Wave" Opens Thursday December 10th, 2009
Fifty24SF is proud to host “The Dark Wave”- a solo exhibition by Herbert Baglione.

Brazilian artist Herbert Baglione has been a strong interest in the South American graffiti movement for more than ten years. Inspired by Brazil’s street culture, Baglione started experimenting with new ways to look at his urban environment of Sao Paulo and provoked dialogue about his fresh perspective on urban artwork. Alongside these efforts are Baglione’s distinctive mural designs and stretched figures representing humans and aliens. These are often balancing elongated and rounded extremes with dramatic iconic symbols such as familiar urban architecture.

Influenced by his older brother, Baglione began painting at the age of three, and has found his greatest interest in provoking themes such as death, individualism, family, and chaos. These complex themes alongside his distinctive style have given Baglione deserved recognition in the international graffiti scene.

“The Dark Wave” features new sketches and paintings on canvas on display at FIFTY24SF Gallery from December 10, 2009 – January 28, 2010.

We cordially invite you to join us for the opening reception of:

Juxtapoz Dark Arts Book
#333110
This book is all about an art form that aims to be unsettling and has its roots in the 20th Century. Some people make a connection between dark art and gothic subculture, others simply associate it with the metaphysical, the disturbing or the nightmarish. However you perceive it, this art form is now part of mainstream culture and is becoming ever more popular. It can be found in all sorts of media including advertising, television, and film.

This collection of works compiled by Juxtapoz features today’s most talented dark artists, all of whom create a certain mood or emotion in their work that is uniquely theirs. Some are especially lush in detail and color such as those by Wendy Cogan-Toyoda; others more minimalist such as Irana Douer’s “hidden treasure” nudes.

Herbert Baglione | ARTotale - Leuphana Urban Art Project - Germany

Herbert Baglione - Dinamarca, 2008.

Leuphana Urban Art Project

From the 5th to the 9th October 2009, the international art scene’s attention will be drawn to Lueneburg / Germany. As part of the Welcome Week for the first-year students of the Leuphana Universit of Lueneburg a great streetart event is planned, that will bring together the university, the town and the art world. Rik Reinking, curator from Hamburg, directs the event artistically.

About 35 internationally renowned streetartists are invited to install their artworks at various locations in the city centre and the different university sites. The art event and ist reception by Lueneburg’s population wont be left unheard. During the Welcome Week 2009 Leuphana’s 1.200 first-year students will document the event by shooting and editing video clips, which will be presented to the public on an online media platform.

Furthermore public television stations will document the exceptional dialog of artists, students and the population of Lueneburg as well as the dialog of modern art and the medieval city centre. The art event will therefore gain enormous radiance outside the city boundaries.

Getting to Lueneburg
The train ride from Hamburg to Lueneburg takes 28 minutes. The capital of Lower Saxony, Hannover, is one hour away by train. Trains to Berlin leave every hour – it takes less than three hours to get there. Connected to the A1, A7 and A250 highways, Lueneburg is also easily accessible by car. Hamburg Airport with domestic and international flights is a 60- minute drive away.

Streetart in Lueneburg
The artists will be working in Lueneburg’s city centre, in the area Rotes Feld as well as on the University Campus Scharnhorststraße. The city centre is within 10 minutes walking distance from the train station. The busses 5011 and 5012 connect Campus Scharnhorststraße and the train station. The bus 5012 also stopps at Kefersteinstraße in the area Rotes Feld.

Opening:
Wednesday, 07. October, 7.30 pm. Starting point Rathaus (Townhall) Lueneburg.
